Players Insurance
Players registered with the Club enjoy the benefits of coverage under a Personal Accident Cover policy provided by the Perth Football League (PFL) through Marsh Insurance. As part of this cover, there are three very important points players should be aware of:
1. Personal Accident Cover CAN pay for Non-Medicare medical expenses
‘Non-Medicare’ means medical costs that can’t be claimed through Medicare. Items generally include physio, chiro, dental, ambulance transport and private hospital accommodation.
2. Personal Accident Cover is NOT Private Health insurance
It is law that Medicare items (including the ‘Medicare Gap’) can’t be claimed on Personal Accident Cover. These items can be claimed on Private Health Insurance and generally include services such as doctor’s fees, surgeon’s fees, anaesthetist fees, x-rays, public hospital costs and MRI scans.
3. Personal Accident Cover is NOT intended to be Life Insurance
Personal Accident Cover is a policy for injuries occurring due to an accident. It is not a sickness or illness policy.
When does Personal Accident Cover apply?
Personal Accident Cover provides coverage for injuries sustained whilst participating in an activity under the following circumstances:
-
An official match or training session
-
Travelling to and from an official club activity
-
Participation in an official club function
-
Tours or representative matches
Your claim may be affected if you:
-
Play against medical advice
-
Have a related pre-existing injury
-
Were under the influence of alcohol or drugs
-
Were involved in a criminal act
-
Have a related pre-existing illness or disease (i.e. cancer, heart condition)
Benefits
The Personal Accident Cover provided by the PFL is Bronze Level, which includes:
-
50% reimbursement of non-Medicare expenses
-
$2,000 maximum per claim
-
$100 excess
-
Capital Benefit maximum $100,000
-
Quadriplegia/Paraplegia maximum $1,000,000
Upgrades
Upgrading cover is optional and is available for individuals at their own expense. Upgrade options include:
-
Increasing Non-Medicare benefits
-
Loss of Income cover. This is an optional extra that individuals can elect to purchase for additional premium.
Recommendations
It is strongly recommended that all players investigate their personal insurance needs. Players should consider the benefits of:
-
Private Health insurance
-
Life Insurance
-
Loss of Income (particularly for self-employed players)
-
Ambulance Subscription
Making a Claim
The process for making a claim is as follows:
-
Complete and submit all personal information and injury details relating to your claim. The best way to do this is using the Online Form but can also be done by downloading a copy of the Personal Accident Claim Form. Section C of the form deals with Loss of Income, which is not included in the Bronze Level of cover.
-
Following your online claim lodgement, Marsh will email you three separate Declarations that need to be completed and signed by the club, your treating physician and/or your employer.
-
The Declarations can be printed and filled in manually or emailed straight to the relevant person for them to print, complete and return to the Insurer on your behalf.
If you have any questions about this process, contact Marsh on 1300 130 373.
